Stuff Genie and Your Privacy

Last Updated: 19 February 2019

At Amico, we care about keeping your data safe. We know that you care how information about you is used, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. Here are answers to common privacy questions about Stuff Genie.

What happens when I speak to Stuff Genie?

When you have a conversation with Stuff Genie, a recording of each utterance in the conversation is sent to Amico’s cloud, where we process the utterance and other information (like your name) to respond to you. For example, when you say, “My name is Sarah,” we receive the recording of your utterance and process it to update your name on your profile, then respond in a way to acknowledge the name change and continue the conversation.

Is Stuff Genie recording all my conversations?

No. Stuff Genie is designed to only listen to you when you open the Skill or ask Alexa to pass an action to Stuff Genie. No audio is stored or sent to the cloud unless either of these two actions have been trigered. When the Skill is closed, or the Alexa command has beem completed, Stuff Genie stops listening and recording your conversation.

How do I know when audio is being sent to the cloud?

Each Alexa device has it's own means to show when a skill is recording user utterances. Stuff Genie only records when the device is indicating that it is recording. For more details, visit the device builder's website.

Can I “mute” my device?

No. You can however stop the recording by asking Stuff Genie to stop. Stuff Genie also automatically closes after 8 seconds of inactivity.

Can I review and delete my voice recordings?

Amico does not store the full recording, only the user's name, Amazon ID, and the items to remember for each day. You can request all the data associated with your account by sending an email to privacy@amico.software. Please send the email from the email address associated with your account so we can be sure it’s you. You can also request to have individual or all conversations deleted by sending an email to privacy@amico.software
